‘Tis the season to be jolly – especially if you’re heading to a Swiss winter wonderland, celebrating New Year in Edinburgh or basking on the beach in Dubai - the top three destinations Gatwick passengers are choosing to fly to during the Christmas holiday.Around 1.5 million people will be travelling through the airport between 17 December and 2 January, with 700,000 departing over the period. The busiest departure day will be Sunday 23 December, with around 56,000 passengers flying off for some festive fun.Throughout the period, Gatwick will be focused on delivering a smooth journey – ensuring passengers kick off their Christmas celebrations in stress-free style. From offering top tips in advance of travel thanks to Gatwick’s ‘12 Days of Christmas’ guide, to the welcome return of the London Ambassadors to the airport, help and advice is always at hand.And it’s not just the destinations passengers can look forward to – the Christmas cheer begins at the airport, with plenty of seasonal fun to entertain travellers. From Santa and his reindeers offering the perfect festive photo opportunity for families, to carol singers providing a traditional soundtrack – there’s something for everyone at Gatwick.Louisa Craven, Gatwick terminal operations, said: “This year sees a great mix of top Christmas destinations as passengers fly out to enjoy the ski season in Switzerland, visit friends and family across the UK and soak up some winter sun.“Staff and extra helpers, including the London Ambassadors who made such a great impression during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, will be on hand to assist at every stage to ensure our passengers enjoy a great experience at Gatwick with some fun, festive entertainment along the way.”

London Ambassadors at Gatwick Following their success during the Games, the London Ambassadors will be present in both terminals between 18 December and 30 December (excluding Christmas Day and Boxing Day) to provide a warm welcome to Gatwick, London and the UK. Gatwick is the only airport location the London Ambassadors will be attending during the Christmas period.
